Civic Memorial and Edwardsville claim regional titles

— Freshman Allie Troeckler scored 10 points to lead the Civic Memorial Eagles over the Highland Bulldogs 33-29 Friday in the championship game of the Class 3A Triad Girls Basketball Regional.

The Eagles, who trailed 16-10 at halftime, used a 13-0 run in the second half to pull in front.

Civic Memorial senior Addie Ballard sank two free throws with eight seconds left to seal the win.

The Eagles (29-2) won their 13th game in a row. They advance to play Effingham Flaming Hearts at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Carbondale Sectional.

Jantzen Michael had 15 points and Josie Zurrusen added 14 points as the Flaming Hearts beat Salem 43-30 Friday in the championship game of the Effingham Regional.

Olivia LaPorta was the top scorer for the Bulldogs, who ended their season with a 21-10 record.

Edwardsville 73, Alton 41

Aaliyah Covington scored 20 points in leading the Edwardsville Tigers past the Alton Redbirds in the championship game of the Class 4A Granite City Regional.

It was the Tigers' 11th straight regional title.

The Tigers (26-1) will play the East St. Louis Flyerettes (15-9) at 7 p.m. Monday in the Class 4A Edwardsville Sectional.

The Redbirds (15-13) lost to the Tigers for the third time this season.

The Redbirds were paced by Jordann Wilson with 14 points.
