Want help paying for college? Here's where to apply for scholarships

Now is the time for high school and college students to apply for scholarships available through local organizations and businesses.

Here's a list of area scholarships up for grabs:

What: Rend Lake College Foundation scholarships

Qualifications: Recipients are selected based on the criteria set forth by each individual scholarship.

Application: Online at http://www.rlc.edu/rlcf or contact the foundation at 618-437-5321, ext. 1214.

Deadline: Feb. 28.

What: Dr. Bruce Adams $1,000 scholarship

Qualifications: Applicants must be a graduating student of Belleville West, Belleville East, Althoff Catholic High or Governor French Academy; a resident of Fairview Heights or Swansea; planning to enter an accredited college, university, junior college or vocational school.

Application: Available by contacting the Metro-East Regional Chamber of Commerce office by email chamber@MetroEastChamber.org or phone at 618-233-3938.

What: Southwestern Illinois College has 50 different scholarships available.

Qualifications: Recipients are selected based on the criteria set forth by each individual scholarship.

Applications: Available online at http://www.swic.edu

What: Madison County Sheriff's Department $500 scholarship

Qualifications: Applicants must be a permanent Illinois resident; scholarships must be utilized at institutions of higher learning within the state of Illinois; and students must be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2014-15 school year.

Application: Available at the Madison County Sheriff's Office, 405 Randle St. in Edwardsville, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and online at http://www.ilsheriff.org.

Deadline: March 15

What: St. Clair County Sheriff's Department $500 scholarship

Qualifications: Applicants must be a permanent Illinois resident; scholarships must be utilized at institutions of higher learning within the state of Illinois; and students must be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2014-15 school year.

Application: Available at the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department, 705 N. Fifth St. in Belleville or online at http://www.ilsheriff.org.

Deadline: March 15

What: $1,000 scholarship from the Millstadt Civic Club

Qualifications: Applicants must be entering an accredited college, university or community college; be a resident of Millstadt Consolidated School District 160; and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

Deadline: March 31. Winner will be announced by May 1.

What: Conference of Women Legislators scholarship

Qualifications: Applicants must be a female 25 years of age or older, a resident of Illinois, and plan to attend an accredited on-campus school in Illinois for at least six semester hours. Eligible applicants must show evidence of furthering their education in order to contribute to their government, children, families and to their community.

What: Multiple scholarships are available through the Illinois Certified Public Accountant Society

Qualifications: Applicants must be students attending an Illinois college or university and pursuing an accounting degree with plans to become a CPA.

What: Thouvenot, Wade & Moerchen, Inc. in Swansea is offering a $1,000 scholarship

Qualification: Applicant must be a current high school senior pursuing an engineering or land surveying bachelor's degree during the fall 2014 semester.

What: Turkey Hill Grange $1,000 scholarships

Qualifications: Applicants must be high school seniors or recent graduates who have a 3.0 grade point average.

Application: Available from the guidance counselors at Belleville West, Belleville East, Althoff Catholic, Mascoutah, Freeburg and Governor French Academy.

Deadline: April 4

What: U.S. Bank will award $1,000 scholarships to 35 students through a random drawing.

Qualifications and application: Students can review official terms and conditions and apply online at http://www.usbank.com/scholarship.

What: $1,000 scholarships through the Great River Workforce Development Corporation, Inc

Qualifications: Applicants must be 2014 high school graduates entering Lewis and Clark Community College, Southwestern Illinois College or Kaskaskia College next fall and residents of either Madison or Bond counties.
