Carol Sue Yates, 77, of Highland died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland and from 10 to 11 a.m. on March 1 at Southern Baptist Church in Highland. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on March 1 at Southern Baptist Church in Highland, with the Rev Billy Blackmon, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
She was born Jan. 24, 1937, to Fred and Frieda (Evans) Bradley. In 1954, she married James Franklin in Fairview Heights. He preceded her in death. In November 1984, she married Robert Yates in Belleville. He also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Yates worked as a commercial insurance underwriter for several companies, and she retired from Schickedanz Insurance Agency in Belleville. She enjoyed reading, bowling, playing cards and working with crafts. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Highland.
She is survived by a son, Dale Franklin of Ramsey, Ill.; daughters, Sue (Alan) Wooters of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Diana Walls of Pierron; a daughter-in-law, Betty Franklin; grandchildren, Melissa (Paul) Fredrickson, Tammy Walls, James (Leslie) Franklin, Brandy Franklin, Matthew Franklin, Tina (Brian) Harvey; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Dan (Kim) Bradley of Richmond, Va., and Steve (Debbie) Bradley of Lockwood, Mich.; a sister, Dixie LePes of Millstadt; a sister-in-law, Mary Bradley of Marquette, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, James Franklin; a son-in-law, Tom Walls; an infant great-grandchild; her parents; brothers, Richard Bradley and Michael Bradley; and a sister-in-law, Alma Bradley.
