Robert J. Brinker, 75, of Highland died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, St. Lukes-West Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 27 and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 28 at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 28 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father Scott Snider, parochial vicar, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.
He was born March 4, 1938, in Centerville to Lester and Marie (Chagala) Brinker to Lester and Marie Brinker. On June 16, 1960, he married Nancy J. Nager at Holy Angels Catholic Church in E. St. Louis. She survives in Highland.
Mr. Brinker was a computer programmer for the government, specifically for the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland. He was a former member of the Highland Jaycees and a former Webelos Scout leader in Highland for the Boy Scouts.
He liked to fish and loved to bowl. He was a devoted family man. He especially liked spending time with his grandchildren. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening.
He is also survived by sons, David (Darla) Brinker of Pocahontas, Donald Brinker of Highland, Joseph (Connie) Brinker of Kansas City, Mo., and Mark Brinker of Highland; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Emily Embrich; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
