A strong showing by the OFallon High boys swimming team in last Saturdays IHSA sectional meet in Springfield ended with the Panthers taking fourth place in the team competition.
At the center of OFallons success was junior Sean Workman, who qualified for the state finals in both of his individual events.
The Panthers, collectively, scored well in several events, scoring a total of 112 team points.
In most races, the OTHS swimmers were able to drop significant seconds from their previous bests, enabling them to finish in the top four.
The tourney title went to host Sacred Heart Griffin. Springfield High and Chatham-Glenwood took second and third respectively.
Workman was the workhorse for the Panthers.
The junior standout earned the teams only gold medal by winning the 100 backstroke.
Adding to his honors, the Panther swimmer took third in the 200 IM in a time that secured his second state invitation.
Other OTHS swimmers who earned points for OFallon included a fourth place finish for the 200 freestyle relay team composed of Workman, Jon Hobbs, Alex Mueller and Tylor Truran; a fifth place by the medley relay team and sixth place by the 400 freestyle relay.
"We had a great showing at the sectional," said OFallon coach Kim Eddy.
"Some of our swimmers who were seeded lower than 12th were able to drop times and score points for us, and our top tier swimmers came through with excellent performances. Sean Workman qualified for both of his individual races and is seeded 12thbackstroke. We are expecting him to make the finals in both races and have a legitimate shot at placing."
