Highland High senior quarterback Mack Waldman will play for Northern Illinois University in DeKalb as a preferred walk-on, Bulldogs coach Jimmy Warnecke confirmed Thursday.

Waldman, a first-team News-Democrat Large-School All-Area selection, helped lead Highland to 11 straight wins before the Bulldogs were eliminated from the playoffs by eventual Class 5A state champion Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin.

Waldman (6-foot-1, 188 pounds) completed 113-of-167 passes for 2,006 yards and 24 touchdowns with just four interceptions. He also ran for 453 yards and two TDs on 68 carries.
