Voters need more details on jail tax

February 28, 2014

I see that St. Clair County Sheriff Rick Watson has an all-out push for his sales tax for the jail renovation going. I fully appreciate that a sales tax is a much fairer way to pay for this; however, I must respectfully vote "no" on this one. My reason is that the sales tax will go on for 25 years and collect three times as much money as needed by the jail renovations.

Watson needs to explain where the rest of the money is going or persuade the County Board to reduce the collection time for this tax. He has less than a month now so he had better hurry.
