LEBANON — McKendree University track and field seniors LaTia Jefferson and Jordon Henderson starred for the Bearcats on the final day of the 2014 Great Lakes Valley Connference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which wrapped up Saturday at the University of Indianapolis.
Jefferson (Belleville East) was named as the GLVC Indoor Women's Field Athlete of the Year following a pair of strong performances at the conference meet. Jefferson shattered a GLVC indoor meet record by winning the triple jump with an effort of 12.06 meters. Jefferson was also third in Friday's long jump.
She becomes the first McKendree track and field athlete to earn an indoor Athlete of the Year award.
Henderson, who won the 60-meter dash at last year's GLVC Indoor Championship, repeated the feat by edging sophomore teammate Cameron James (Edwardsville) for the 2014 60-meterr title. Henderson crossed the finish line in a final time of 6.76 seconds, while James posted an effort of 6.84 seconds. Both marks were NCAA Division II provisional qualifying efforts.
The McKendree men's track and field team finished sixth at this year's meet, while the Bearcat women took seventh place overall.
