Restitution required

The sentencing of two of the tax buyers in former Madison County Treasurer Fred Bathon's scheme to steal from the most vulnerable among us is a slap in the face of justice.

Can it be possible that there will be no attempt by the county to repay these victims? How shameful it is to throw up their hands and declare that damages cannot be calculated. If someone robs from a bank, is he not made to return the full amount and then pay a fine or serve a sentence on top of that?

Don't put these guys in jail; we have too many non-violent offenders in jail already. They should have been made to pay back their victims including punitive damages and then do several years community service.
