A Madison County woman has been charged with a pair of felonies after sheriff's deputies said they discovered her using a baseball bat to beat her boyfriend in a ditch.

Kelsey D. Proffer, 23, of 1335 Ninth St. Cottage Hills, was charged with aggravated battery and possession of a controlled substance.

According to sheriff's department reports, a call regarding domestic abuse was received at just before noon Saturday in the area of Ninth Street and Stanley Road in Cottage Hills. Deputies arrived to find an abandoned car with its rear window smashed out. Neighbors pointed out the couple to deputies where they were fighting in a nearby ditch.

The male victim was bleeding from his nose and head. He refused medical treatment. A wooden baseball bat was found at the scene.

A search of Proffer allegedly uncovered several alprazolam tablets, an anti-anxiety medication for which she didn't have a prescription.

She was jailed on $40,000 bail.
