Every taxpayer in Illinois needs to know the truth behind the closing of Murray Developmental Center and all other state-run residential institutions for those with developmental disabilities.

The truth is that the civil rights of the most vulnerable are being used and manipulated to push a political agenda in the name of gaining (tax) money, grants, jobs and contracts.

The truth is that closing Murray or any other developmental disability institution in Illinois is taking away the fundamental right to choice clearly outlined in the 1999 Olmstead v. L.C. Supreme Court decision. (http://vor.net/olmstead- resources )

Olmstead states, "Each disabled person is entitled to treatment in the most integrated setting possible for that person -- recognizing that, on a case-by-case basis, that setting may be an institution."

The truth is a great injustice is being committed against the most vulnerable. And, ironically, it is being committed by those entrusted to represent and defend their civil rights.

The truth is the state and advocates for the disabled have a moral and legal obligation to uphold the Olmstead decision and keep Murray open.

The truth is that there is much more to the story behind this movement to close residential institutions in Illinois. Reference http://www.wjbdradio.com/LocalNews/The-Whole-Dirty-Truth-About-the-Closure-of-Murray-Center#.Uwle8fldWSo).

The time is now to demand that the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help us all.
