Edwardsville's Dunbar is first-team all-state

Edwardsville High senior and University of Tennessee recruit Kortney Dunbar was the lone metro-east player to earn first-team all-state honors when the Associated Press released its Class 3A and Class 4A all-state girls basketball teams.

Dunbar, a 6-foot-2 senior, averaged 17.2 points with a team-leading 58 3-pointers while helping Edwardsville (30-2) reach the Bloomington Super-Sectional.

It was Edwardsville's seventh super-sectional appearance in the last eight years.

Edwardsville senior Aaliyah Covington received honorable mention all-state honors along with Belleville West junior guard Shay Fluker.

Covington, headed to St. Louis University, averaged 17.8 points. Fluker led the Maroons in scoring at 17.5 points per game and also had 32 3-pointers.
