Granite City police have arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with a threat made to Coolidge Middle School in Granite City.
Police declined to identify the suspect until charges have been filed.
The school was placed on lockdown while police began their investigation about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The threat was made through a phone call to a mental health service, not to the school directly.
The lockdown was lifted when officers learned the suspect was not in the immediate area of the school. Investigators tracked the call to the El Gato Tavern in Granite City and arrested the man about 4:30 p.m.
The man did not possess any weapons at the time of the arrest. Police plan to pursue charges Friday with the Madison County State's Attorney Office.
