County Board candidate drops bid to represent Washington Park

Harry Hollingsworth, one of six candidates seeking to represent Washington Park and part of East St. Louis on the St. Clair County Board, has dropped out of the race.

Hollingsworth, of East St. Louis, faced five challengers in his campaign to win the seat representing District 2 in the Democratic primary on March 18. The seat was vacated by incumbent Willie "Big Mac" McIntosh. A Republican candidate did not file to run in the primary.

The other challengers include incumbent Joan McIntosh, Edith A. Moore, Mack Slater, Rickie Thomas and Marvin B. Strode. In January, Strode had unsuccessfully appealed to the St. Clair County Election Board to remove his opponents from the ballot for allegedly incorrectly filling out their candidate petitions.
