Madison County man dies after losing control of SUV

An Alton man died after the SUV he was driving went out of control and struck a traffic signal pole early Saturday morning.

Kenneth A. Johnson, 28, of 819 Oakwood, was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control of a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, according to the Madison County Coroner's Office. At the time of the crash, the SUV was headed west about 2:20 a.m. on Homer Adams Parkway in Alton.

Johnson was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at 3 a.m. Saturday. Two other people riding in the vehicle were wearing seat belts and suffered minor injuries.

Alton police continue investigating the accident. Funeral arrangements are pending.
