Rail station spending is a waste of taxes

March 9, 2014

I echo the sentiments of the callers and letter writers that yet again, St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark "King" Kern has blown $500,000 of county taxpayer funds to study what has to be the biggest flim-flam since Mid America Airport.

I'm referring to plan to study the feasibility of a high speed rail stop in East St Louis. First, what part of high speed does he and his cronies on the County Board not understand? Why would a high-speed train leave the station in St Louis and stop about three minutes later in East St Louis?

Where is the safe parking, the ability to board without being in fear for your life and where can you get a Starbucks latte and scone for your journey? Answer: not in East St Louis.

I'm not trying to be mean, but it is what it is.
