Police: Man found dead 'not properly cared for' at Belleville home

News-DemocratMarch 11, 2014

Belleville police investigating a death Tuesday afternoon said the 52-year-old man apparently died of natural causes, but that he "was not properly cared for."

Police responded at 9:52 a.m. Tuesday to reports of an unconscious man at 46 Patricia Lane, Detective Sgt. Mark Heffernan said.

Heffernan said the man was disabled and had "many health issues," but he did not elaborate.

"There were indicators at the scene that led investigators to believe the deceased was not properly cared for at the residence," Heffernan said.

Officers interviewed other adults living at the home. Police are not seeking any suspects related to the incident.

The St. Clair County Coroner's Office said they believe the death to be natural.

An autopsy will be performed Wednesday.
