Social Security advocacy group endorses Callis for 13th District

— Former chief judge Ann Callis received a pair of boxing gloves -- and an endorsement -- from a national Social Security advocacy group.

The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare has endorsed Callis in her bid for the 13th Congressional District. Committee President Max Richtman appeared with Callis Tuesday in Wood River to announce the endorsement and present her with a pair of boxing gloves, saying he wanted her to fight on behalf of seniors in Congress.

"Ann is a candidate that not only says the right thing, but her heart is in the right place," Richtman said. "She will protect Social Security benefits for Illinois families."

Callis faces George Gollin and David L. Green in the Democratic primary. On the Republican side, incumbent U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, faces his own primary challenge from Erika Harold and Michael Firsching.
