An Edwardsville man died in a single-vehicle crash on Tuesday night.

Daniel W. Hurt, 26, of 5001 Barnes Lane in Edwardsville, died as a result of blunt chest trauma, according to news release from Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn.

Hurt was driving a 1999 GMC Savana van south in the 3500 block of Sand Road in Edwardsville about 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The van left the road, struck a utility pole then rolled over. Hurt was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, the news release stated.

Hurt was pronounced dead at the Anderson Hospital at 10:18 p.m. on Tuesday. Routine toxicology is pending.

The accident knocked out phone, cable and Internet services for Charter Communications customers in several Madison County towns.

Charter Communication is down in Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, St. Jacob, Marine, Highland and Maryville, said Charter spokesman Wes Shirley.

A car crashed into three utility poles, damaging fiber optic cables, Shirley said. Crews are on site now, Shirley said. Charter was on the scene shortly after the accident at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, but could only start work after police cleared the scene and Ameren repaired the damaged utility poles, Shirley said.

Charter crews were not allowed access until Wednesday morning, Shirley said.

Services are expected to be restored by 5 p.m. Wednesday.
