The driver of a car and rider of a motorcycle involved Wednesday in a nearly head-on crash were ticketed in relation to the accident.

According to Illinois State Police reports, David Marshall, 55 of Belleville, was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle at just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was northbound on Illinois 13 between Freeburg and New Athens when a driver of a southbound Honda Accord, 19-year-old Marc Dontigney of Belleville, pulled out into oncoming traffic to attempt a pass.

Marshall was unable to avoid Dontigney's car and was clipped by the driver's side front corner. He was ejected off the motorcycle and suffered facial lacerations and a badly broken leg. Dontigney was uninjured, according to State Police spokesman Calvin Dye Jr.

Dontigney was cited for driving an uninsured motor vehicle and for improper overtaking. Marshall was written a ticket for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and for driving with a suspended license.

Police said Marshall was treated at an area hospital but did not have an update on his condition.
