Disaster training sessions planned in Belleville

Belleville will play host to several free Community Emergency Response Team disaster preparedness training sessions in May.

CERT officials will train residents on how to assist victims in the event of a disaster, when a community's professional emergency responders might be overwhelmed or delayed.

The class covers disaster medical assistance, light search and rescue, fire safety, terrorism response and disaster psychology.

The training is at the Garden Heights Baptist Church, 1897 Mascoutah Ave. in Belleville.

The sessions are from: 7 to 10 p.m. May 9; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 10; 7 to 10 p.m. May 16; and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 17.

Anyone older than age 12 may apply.
