Bearcats' Jefferson doesn't make finals

— McKendree University senior LaTia Jefferson (Belleville East) was the lone McKendree representative in action Saturday on the final day of the 2014 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships held in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Jefferson, fresh off winning the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year at the conference meet two weeks ago, was one of 17 participants in the triple jump. Jefferson competed in the second flight, and had three attempts to finish in the top nine to advance to the finals of the event. She fouled on her first and third attempts, but posted a leap of 11.75 meters on her second jump.

Despite her effort, Jefferson did not qualify for the finals of the triple jump.

Jefferson's appearance at the NCAA Division II national meet officially closed out the 2013-14 indoor season for McKendree. The Bearcats will now turn their attention to the spring outdoor season, which begins next weekend at the University of Alabama Relays.
