Too vague to vote 'yes'

March 16, 2014

I would support the building of a new correctional facility in St. Clair County with sales tax revenue if the ballot was specific to that endeavor. However, I am not sure that I can support the tax referendum in the interest of "public safety" because I am not sure what exactly that means.

Are civic leaders paid with sales revenue to discuss what is public safety? Will additional security measures such as patrols or police presence be funded with sales tax revenue? What exactly is in the minds of our elected officials when public safety is the issue?
