Sports Authority in Fairview Heights will close Tuesday and reopen at a new locale on Friday.
The sporting goods retailer is leaving Fairview Heights Plaza on Ludwig Drive and will move to the Fairview City Centre that is being developed on the northwest corner of Illinois 159 and Lincoln Trail. A grand opening will be held March 29.
The revamped shopping center is already home to Petco and Office Max. Additional construction will soon begin there on Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, an organic grocery store, and home furnishing retailer HomeGoods.
A new restaurant is coming soon to O'Fallon that will feature a menu of Italian, Greek and American food and a buffet. Waterfall Restaurant is moving into the former Supreme Buffett & Grill at 1333 Central Park Drive. The owners anticipate opening within a week.
On Belleville's east side, Super Gyros is moving into a former White Castle at 766 Carlyle Ave. and will serve gyros and "Chicago-style food." Stay tuned.
Also on the east end, Penn Station East Coast Subs plans to open in Belleville on April 1. Atis and Lisa Khan, who also own the Penn Station at 2085 W. Highway 50 in Fairview Heights, are getting their newest sandwich shop ready at 651 Carlyle Ave., where a Blockbuster video rental store had operated until a couple of years ago.
Dairy Freeze at 250 St. Louis Road in Collinsville is opening season 64. Cookie dough and banana split concretes are among customer favorites, Sonja Witte says. Witte is the owner of the family business. Call them at 618-346-8313.
