A 22-year-old man from Okawville was killed Monday night in a crash on Interstate 64 near Mascoutah.

Ryan Wagner's name was released Tuesday morning by the St. Clair County Coroner's office.

He was the driver and sole occupant of a Pontiac that rear-ended a semi truck and another vehicle Monday night. The vehicles were heading east on the interstate; the crash happened near Illinois 4, according to Illinois State Police Trooper Calvin Dye. Jr.

West Washington County Superintendent Scott Fuhrhop said Wagner graduated from Okawville Senior High School in 2009.

Wagner played basketball and baseball and was a good student, according to Fuhrhop.

"I'm just shocked," Fuhrhop said. "It's a true loss and a tragedy what happened."

Funeral arrangements for Wagner are being handled by Campagna Funeral Homes, Ltd.

According to his obituary, Wagner is survived by his wife Michelle, who he married in January. Michelle Wagner is expecting their first child in September.

Wagner worked as a personal trainer at Gold's Gym in O'Fallon.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Okawville. Wagner's body will be cremated and his ashes will be buried in the church cemetery.

Donations will be accepted at the funeral home for a fund to be established to benefit Wagner's baby.

Eastbound lanes of I-64 were closed for several hours Monday night as emergency crews investigated the crash.
