Two Edwardsville players earn second-team all-state honors

Edwardsville High School seniors Shawn Roundtree and Armon Fletcher each were second-team all-state selections Thursday as the Associated Press announced its Class 4A all-state basketball team.

Roundtree and Fletcher have helped Edwardsville (30-2) to the Class 4A semifinals. The Tigers take on (Lisle) Benet Academy on Friday at Peoria's Carver Arena with the winner getting a shot at the state title.

Headed to Southern Illinois University Carbondale, the 6-foot-5 Fletcher averages 17.5 points and 13.8 rebounds per game. Roundtree, who has several Division I offers, averages 17.4 points and 8.5 assists.

O'Fallon junior guard Donovan Franklin received honorable mention on the 4A all-state team. The 6-6 Franklin averaged 20.4 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Panthers' regional finalist squad.

In Class 3A, no metro-east players cracked the first or second team.

Earning honorable mention all-state were Cahokia's 6-5 senior foward Darius Austin, Cahokia's 6-2 senior guard Carleton Rivers, Althoff freshman forward Jordan Goodwin and Marquette senior guard Deion Lavender.

Austin (17.7 points and 7.7 rebounds) and Rivers (12.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3 assists) helped Cahokia reach the 3A Springfield Super-Sectional before losing to Lincoln.

Goodwin averaged 19.5 points and 11 rebounds and Lavender was among the leading scorers in the St. Louis area at 25.3 points per game. Lavender will join Fletcher at SIU Carbondale.
