Long-time television news personality Jennifer Blome will retire next week, she announced Friday morning on the NewsChannel 5 Today in St. Louis morning show.

Blome will leave broadcast journalism to become the director of humane education at the Animal Protective Association of Missouri.

Blome came to KSDK in 1979 and most recently has served as the co-anchor of Today in St. Louis with Pat McGonigle and Nichole Berlie.

She has been vocal about her love of animals and lead the Sammy's Stars Pet for Adoption segment for years.

"I am happy when the dogs and cats we feature for adoption find homes thanks to all of you," she said on her online biography. "St. Louis is a wonderful place to live, isn't it?"

Blome said her last day will be next Friday.
