'No' vote may cost St. Clair County taxpayers

March 22, 2014

Well, all of those smart (dumb) people who voted to shoot down the sales tax for the St. Clair County Jail construction got their way, for now. However, I am sure when the U.S. Department of Jails tells the county that it needs to build a new, updated jail to replace the current facility due to overcrowding, guess where the money will come from? A property tax increase. All the landlords will pass it on to their renters because they are not going to fall on a sword for all of the dummies on top of the hill in O'Fallon, Shiloh, Fairview Heights, etc.

I figure a new, modern criminal justice center will cost St. Clair County approximately $100 million and will require 700 beds.
