Fairview Heights joins St. Clair County's burn ban

News-DemocratMarch 26, 2014

The city of Fairview Heights suspended all open burning within city limits until further notice.

The decision was made in concurrence with St. Clair County who published a ban Monday through April 1 on open burning because of dry and hazardous atmospheric conditions, said Fairview Heights Police Detective James Mason.

Burning within the city limits usually is allowed at specific times and days of the week. However, dry foliage and increased wind make prime conditions for brush fires, according to Mason.

If you observe open burning in Fairview Heights, call the police at 618-489-2100.

According to the National Weather Service, the metro-east is likely to get some much needed rain. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Wednesday night through Friday night.
