Southwestern Illinois College on Thursday will host the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Mobile Vet Center at the Belleville Campus, 2500 Carlyle Ave.

"This is a chance for veterans in the local area to receive outreach," said David Paeth, director of Veterans Services at SWIC.

The primary mission of the Mobile Vet Center is to help veterans readjust to civilian life. The staff helps veterans work through challenges and also offer individual, family and group counseling for issues including post traumatic stress disorder, military sexual trauma and bereavement. The MVC provides readjustment counseling and outreach services to all veterans who served in any combat zone. Services also are available to veterans' family members for military-related issues.

The mobile center will be available on campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday in front of the Liberal Arts Complex.

Veterans can also get assistance at the East St. Louis Vet Center at 1265 N. 89th St., Suite 5, in East St. Louis. The phone number is 618-397-4362.
