Washington Park has sixth fire in two weeks

News-DemocratApril 7, 2014

Another overnight fire burned a home early Monday in Washington Park.

The blaze happened near the intersection of North 56th Street and Hill Avenue. Details about what time the fire started or if anyone lived in the home were unavailable Monday morning. But the house was apparently severely damaged by flames that could be seen shooting high into the air.

It's at least the sixth fire in the last two weeks in Washington Park, where the city has switched from a paid fire department to a mostly volunteer department. The department now has one chief who is paid, and eight volunteers.
