Wrong-way driver crashes near Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge

News-DemocratApril 7, 2014

A driver and a passenger were injured Saturday morning after they traveled the wrong way on the entrance ramp to the Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge and crashed into another car.

Illinois State Trooper Calvin Dye said a 36-year-old woman and her passenger were westbound on Interstate 55-70 just after 4:30 a.m. when they struck another car and then hit a median wall. The wrong-way driver's car then spun and came to a stop in the right lane, facing the correct direction.

The driver and her passenger were transported to a St. Louis-area hospital. The driver of the second car was not injured.

Names and current conditions were not released by police.

The accident remains under investigation.
