O'Fallon slips by Belleville East

Top-ranked large school O'Fallon held off a late rally Tuesday and moved to 9-1 this season with a 4-3 Southwestern Conference baseball victory over the Belleville East Lancers,

Kyle VanBevern homered and had two hits for O'Fallon while Dean Gerros and Collin Holton each had two hits and an RBI. The Panthers also got a highlight reel defensive play when center fielder Dillon Weis made a diving catch to end the game.

Edwardsville 10, Belleville West 0

Austin Werner belted a pair of home runs and also had a double with five RBIs and Alex Meyers tossed six shutout innings as the Edwardsville Tigers (9-1) knocked off Belleville West (7-4) in another Southwestern Conference game. West was held to just four hits, all singles.

Edwardsville's Aaron Jackson and Brock Weimer each had two RBis and Fahd Shakeel was 2-for-3 with a double and triple.

Althoff 5, Centralia 2

Ben Hankammer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Luke Frazier also drove in two runs to back storng pitching from Austin Keen in Althoff's South Seven victory. Collin McClellan also had two hits for the Crusasaders (6-2).

Wesclin 1, Freeburg 0

Jared Timmermann's RBI single in the ninth inning lifted the Wesclin Warriors to a Cahokia Conference win over top-ranked Freeburg. Timmermann also got the pitching win wit a scoreless inning of relief and Michael Klein and Ryan Meddows each had two hits for the Warriors.

Carlyle 5, Columbia 4

Carlyle (9-1) pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge Columbia in a Cahokia Conference game. Hunter Johnson was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Carlyle and Matt Hilmes also drove in a run.

K.J. Spisak was 3-for-4 for Columbia (6-4) and Cole Foster had two RBIs.

Alton 3, Granite City 2

Alton scored the tie-breaking run in the top of the seventh and held Granite City scoreless in the bottom of the inning for an SWC victory. Jacob Kanallakan was 2-for-3 with an RBI double for Alton and Wil Lewis also drove in a run as Bryan Hudson got the pitching win. Granite City's D.J. Miller was 2-for-4 with a double.
