Belleville police have a suspect in custody in connection with a Tuesday morning home invasion and armed robbery in the 800 block of South Jackson Street, according to Detective Sgt. Mark Heffernan.

The suspect was identified as a 33-year-old man, Heffernan said. His name was not released because he has not been charged. He is being held at the Belleville Police Department.

"We plan on presenting the case for charges (on Thursday)," Heffernan said.

Detectives spotted the man about noon Wednesday in the 200 block of East Main Street. He was taken into custody without incident, Heffernan said.

The victims of the home invasion were specifically targeted, police said on Tuesday. The suspect displayed a knife and demanded specific items from the two residents of the home. The residents complied and the suspect left. Police did not reveal what the suspect demanded.

The suspect ran away from the scene, leading to a search of the area by officers and canines.
