Field of dreams to be a reality

April 9, 2014

Congratulations to Fairview Heights resident Brenda Wagner. At 6 p.m. today the Miracle League Field of Fairview Heights is to be dedicated at Moody Park (Long Acre).

Wagner is the president of the Miracle League; she has dedicated nine years to get this field. This field is set up for people with special needs who are unable to move around without the use of a wheelchair, walker or some other device.

This field is made of rubber-like materials with a special smooth and soft surface. This would allow the players to move around more easily and freely. The bases would be even with the ground so no one can trip over them.

This field will be called Catch 22 Miracle League Field. Catch 22 is the Foundation of St. Louis Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny; he has made donations to this program.

The Rotary Club of Fairview Heights has been involved with the Miracle League Field.

St. Louis Cardinals mascot, Fred Bird, could make an appearance at the dedication.

I have been using a wheelchair since 2005. I know how the people will feel being on their own field. I will be there.

Every child deserves a chance to play ball.
