A 22-year-old woman was cited after a motorcycle slammed into her car in a Caseyville intersection, causing the death of a 45-year-old Cahokia woman.

Jasmine Pierson, of Edwardsville, was driving south on Illinois 157 about 3 p.m. Friday when she made a left turn onto Tucker Lane in Caseyville. A Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Denny Suchman, 49, of Belleville, was traveling north on Illinois 157, said Caseyville Police Chief Jose Alvarez.

"It appears that she made the left turn in front of him and he didn't have time to avoid hitting the car," Alvarez said.

The motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of Pierson's 2012 Mitsubishi, ejecting Suchman's passenger Kristi Petroski, of Cahokia, Alvarez said. Petroski was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Clair County Deputy Coroner Danny Haskenhoff.

Suchman was transported to a hospital. His condition was not available Saturday.

Alvarez said there were helmets at the scene, but he wasn't sure whether Suchman and Petroski were wearing them at the time of the collision.

Pierson was cited for failure to yield, disobeying a traffic control device and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Alvarez said.
