O'FALLON — Belleville's loss was O'Fallon's gain when Aljim Deva moved his family-style restaurant (The Belleville Diner Restaurant) to 1333 Central Park Drive last month.
Now called Waterfall Restaurant, it's across from the O'Fallon Cine 15 movie theater. Aljim said sewer and plumbing problems at the building he had leased on West Main Street in Belleville forced him to change locations.
"I saw this building on the Internet and I liked it," he said of the large space that had housed an Asian restaurant.
While there is still some Asian decor inside and outside, including the lobby waterfall, Aljim has done his best to modify the interior. He put in new flooring, painted and moved in dark wood tables and chairs to fill the dining room.
Aljim, 56, is originally from Macedonia and moved to the United States in 1982. He has lived in the metro-east for 15 years. His son, Brian, who attended culinary school in Macedonia, came to the U.S. in the 1990s and is the restaurant's chef.
Waterfall offers dine-in and carry-out service for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Breakfast is served all day off the menu and includes specialty items such as the feta spinach omelet ($6.99 with hash browns or American fries and toast) and the Pancake Sandwich ($5.99), with ham between two pancakes topped with two eggs. Classic offerings include waffles, french toast, biscuits and gravy, skillet combinations and crepes.
A lunch buffet is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with dinner by menu only. On Friday, both lunch and dinner are buffet only. On Saturday and Sunday, breakfast/brunch is from 6 to 11 a.m., with the rest of the day given over to a buffet.
Buffet choices can include a large selection of salad offerings, barbecue riblets, fried shrimp, chicken and pork, plus vegetables, potatoes and additional side items. Whether dine-in or carry-out, the buffet is $7.99 for lunch and $8.99 for dinner.
You'll find a variety of lunch and dinner items, from Italian Veal Parmesan ($8.99, with potato, vegetable, soup or salad) and a gyro on pita bread with a cup of soup ($6.29, or $7.29 with fries added) to open-face hot breaded pork tenderloin sandwich ($7.29 with mashed potatoes and soup) and roast turkey and dressing ($8.29).
There is a seniors menu for ages 55 and older for $7.29. It has 13 choices, such as liver and onions, grilled pork chop and ham steak with pineapple. All include potato, vegetable, soup or salad and ice cream.
A children's menu ranges from a Mickey Mouse pancake with bacon or sausage for $2.99 to child-size portions of spaghetti or mostaccioli for $3.99.
