Sheriff: Woman charged with bringing cocaine into Madison County Jail

A Mississippi woman has been charged with bringing cocaine into the Madison County Jail.

Kelsey Elizabeth Lewis, 24, of 119 Short Sherman Ave. in Vicksburg, Miss., was charged Friday with bringing contraband into a penal institution and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, according to Madison County Sheriff Robert Hertz.

Roxana police placed Lewis in a holding cell at the jail at about 10:18 p.m. Thursday prior to her formal processing, according to police. A jail deputy noticed Lewis acting suspiciously, entered the cell and located a small package containing cocaine allegedly belong to Lewis.

Lewis remains in custody of the county jail.
