Durbin and Air Force Secretary James to tour Scott on Tuesday

April 14, 2014

— U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., will join Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James for a tour of Scott Air Force Base on Tuesday morning.

Durbin and James, along with U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., and Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon, will tour Scott's Air Operations Center and the 126th Air Refueling Wing.

They also will meet with local government and business leaders to discuss the strong local and regional support for the base.

James is the second top-ranking Air Force official to tour Scott in Durbin's company in three weeks. On March 21, Gen. Mark Welsh, the Air Force chief of staff, traveled to Scott at the suggestion of Durbin, the chairman of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. Welsh met with the base's top officers and community leaders during that meeting.

As with the March 21 tour, the tour and meeting Tuesday will be closed to the media and public. At the end of the visit, community leaders will hold a press conference.
