— A Granite City man is the latest to face charges of drug-induced homicide in a heroin overdose.

John P. Lance, 29, has been charged with multiple felonies in the death of Sara Brewer, 25, who overdosed in her Granite City home Jan. 13.

According to prosecutors, police determined that Lance provided the heroin to Brewer before her death.

A heroin task force was launched in Madison County after three people overdosed on heroin in one night, and several other heroin overdoses have taken place so far this year.

Lance is charged with drug-induced homicide, a Class X felony punishable with six to 30 years in prison. He is also charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 2 felony punishable by 3-7 years in prison.

Lance is not currently in custody. His bail was set at $500,000.
