RICHMOND, Ky. — The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougars are is back on the road to face the Eastern Kentucky Colonels and will try to do something that's never happened before for the program.
SIUE has never won at Eastern Kentucky and each of the four series the two teams have played have ended in sweeps. The Cougars will try to change that when the four-game Ohio Valley Conference series begins Thursday and runs through Saturday at Turkey Hughes Field.
The action can be heard on WSIE-FM (88.7). Veteran broadcaster Joe Pott will handle the play by play.
The Cougars (12-22, 9-9) are 3-3 on the road this season in conference play.
The Colonels (17-19, 7-8) lead the all-time series 9-3.
SIUE is coming off a doubleheader loss to Belmont. The visiting Bruins scored 8-5 and 8-3 wins at Simmons Baseball Complex.
The Cougars have now lost three consecutive OVC series, after opening the season with three consecutive series wins.
"We need to focus on getting better. Winning and losing will take care of itself if you focus on the process of what you need to do to get better every day," SIUE coach Tony Stoecklin said. "We lose focus of that. That's going to be our goal next week: focusing on what it takes to get better every day."
