A 27-year-old man has been taken into custody after a reported abduction Thursday afternoon in Columbia.

Columbia Police responded to a 911 call at 2:24 p.m. to a possible abduction from the 2600 block of Deercreek Court.

The caller gave a vehicle description and license plate number and reported that a female passenger screamed for help from the passenger seat while a male driver restrained her by holding her with his arms around her neck, according to a news release from Chief Joseph Edwards.

The descriptions were given to Illinois State Police who put out an area-wide broadcast. Officers assisted from the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department and Dupo, Cahokia and Belleville police departments.

A St. Clair County deputy located the suspect, victim and vehicle in the 7200 block of Triple Lakes Road in rural St. Clair County.

The suspect faces possible charges of domestic battery, unlawful restraint and endangering the life of a child, Edwards said.
