A single vehicle crash early Friday morning in Marissa left one man dead and two others injured, according to officials.

St. Clair County Deputy Coroner Dean Darnall said he pronounced Daniel Pocrnich, 30, of Tilden, dead at 3:10 a.m. Friday.

Illinois State Police Trooper Calvin Dye Jr. said the crash occurred at just after 2 a.m. Friday when the driver of a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup lost control while traveling northbound on Illinois Route 4.

The vehicle rolled several times in a field near Mud Creek Road. Pocrnich was ejected and found trapped underneath the truck, which came to a rest on all four of its wheels.

Pocrnich died of massive trauma to the head and neck, Darnall said.

The driver and another passenger suffered serious injuries, Dye said. Both were transported to a Sparta-area hospital.

Police said the driver was then airlifted by ARCH Air Medical Services to a St. Louis-area hospital, and the passenger was transported by ambulance to a St. Louis-area hospital.

The name of the driver or other passenger were not released by police.

Illinois State Police continue to investigate the crash. No charges have been filed.
