The second coming of the a long-standing Collinsville eatery and bar is expected in about two months.
The back end of the establishment at 410 St. Louis Road that has been and will continue to be known as The Horseshoe has been demolished and gutted. Owners Bernie and Darlene Clardy are putting in a new kitchen and dining room but keeping the bar that had graced the building that has stood there for the past 70 years. Bernie said he anticipates reopening the business in June with its new look and menu that will feature some of the favorites from the past, like steaks, hamburgers and "gizzards and livers."
The folks who are opening the new Flamingos restaurant at 923 W. Main St. in Belleville, where Maxwell's Restaurant had operated for 36 years until closing two years ago, hope to open their doors by next month. When they do, the business will be initially open on Friday and Saturday nights. The eatery will feature the flock of flamingos that were perched and decorated throughout the dining rooms, a new deck for outdoor eating as well as many of the items featured on Maxwell's menu. A Belleville tavern is under new ownership and name. Antique House at 3701 W. Main St. has been renamed Spike's Pub & Grub. Owner Dan Speichinger is planning a grand opening on May 9. In the meantime, you can call him at 618-235-2734.

A Collinsville retailer that sold purses, wallets, jewelry scarves, hats and other accessories has closed its doors. Glamour Fashions & More at 116 N. Bluff Road, Suite B, has gone out of business.
And finally, Quizno's remains in business following the sandwich restaurant chain's recent bankruptcy. The business filed for Chapter 11 last month but continues operating its restaurants in downtown Belleville, Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Highland and elsewhere while the company restructures its debt.
