Felon charged with purse-snatching in Belleville

A St. Louis man was charged Monday in connection with a purse-snatching in Belleville on Saturday night.

Stephen C. Taylor, 24, of 5922 Maple St. in St. Louis, was charged with one count of robbery.

Belleville police received a report of a purse being taken from a woman by force in the 1500 block of East B. St. in Belleville on Saturday at 8:11 p.m., said Detective Sgt. Mark Heffernan.

Officers found a man matching the suspect's description in the 2000 block of East D Street.

"Officers discovered evidence related to the victim on the suspect at the time of his arrest," Heffernan said.

The victim suffered minor injuries during the robbery.

Taylor is currently on probation in Missouri. He was charged with attempting to deliver contraband into a correctional facility. He has a previous conviction in Missouri for unlawful use of a weapon. He was sentenced to two years in prison on that charge.

Taylor was scheduled to be arraigned on the St. Clair County charges Monday afternoon. His bail was set at $60,000.
