Cahokia Police were questioning two people Tuesday after a 21-year-old man was killed Monday night.

Rahmahjae Rogers, 21, of 536 St. James in Cahokia was shot in the head about 10:30 p.m. Monday while standing by a van at 2005 Delores in Cahokia, according to St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone. He said Rogers was pronounced dead at 10:44 p.m. Monday at Touchette Regional Hospital and died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Cahokia Police Chief James Jones said it was the village's second homicide of the year.

He said a woman called police at 10:30 p.m. Monday saying someone had been shot and she was driving that person to the hospital. Jones said police also received a call from the hospital shortly after the gunshot victim arrived.

Police arriving at Delores Street found remnants of intense gunfire, Jones said. There were 17 shell casings in the street.

Officers found one person of interest at 1:30 a.m. Monday and a second person was located and taken in to the police station for questioning at 2:30 a.m.

"We are in the early stages of our investigation. We do not have an established motive at this time," Jones said.

The other Cahokia homicide was Feb. 8 in the 30 block of Marilyn Avenue. The victim died on Feb. 15.
