A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon on the roof of one of the buildings that is part of the Auffenberg St. Clair Auto Mall in O'Fallon.

The fire happened about 1:15 p.m. on the roof of the building that houses pre-owned cars.

Dave Adler, one of the business managers at the dealership, said he noticed flames and black smoke coming from the edge of the roof where a roofing crew was working.

"I called 911," Adler said. "There was black smoke and flames and then it went down, and then it went up again. Then the ladder truck showed up."

Adler called 911, the power was shut off, and all the workers and customers evacuated the building. Adler said about 40 people work in the building.

No one was injured and no damage was caused to the show room or vehicles, Adler said.

About 2 p.m., firefighters from O'Fallon and Fairview Heights continued to douse the roof.
