A 19-year-old was making a purchase Tuesday night at a Mobil station in Washington Park when a suspect drove up and shot him. He later died, police said.
The teen was taken to St. Louis University Hospital, where he died, according to Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Mark Doiron. He was identified as Lamont D. Gregory of Washington Park.
Gregory was shot about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday on the convenience store's parking lot and collapsed inside, Doiron said. The store's windows were shattered by bullets. There were 13 white paper cups placed on the ground by police to mark where they had found shell casings.
The shooting appeared to be a drive-by, Washington Park Police Chief Aubrey Keller said. He and Doiron both said police were unsure of the motive and had no suspects.
Illinois State Police crime scene technicians were at the gas station and convenience store Tuesday night collecting evidence.
