A couple has been charged with having sex with a 14-year-old girl after they lured her to a Collinsville motel and plied her with drugs and alcohol.

Anthony Redden Jr, 36, and Jennifer Smith, 33, have been charged with sexual assault by the Madison County State's Attorney's Office.

According to Collinsville police reports, they lured the girl to a room at the Comfort Inn on April 16. The suspects are friends with the victim's family, police said, and used that tie to get her to agree to come to the hotel.

Once there, police said they gave her alcoholic beverages and drugs. The charges allege that both then committed sexual acts with the girl under the threat of force, and when the girl was unable to consent.

Smith and Redden are each charged with four counts of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony.

Redden was arrested in St. Louis and is currently in custody there on unrelated criminal charges. He is awaiting extradition to Illinois, where he will be held on $200,000 bail.

Smith is now in custody at the Madison County Jail in Edwardsville, also held on $200,000 bail, as set by Madison County Associate Judge Neil Schroeder.
