Severe thunderstorms in the forecast

Thunderstorms are likely Thursday in the metro-east and it's possible they could become severe during the evening hours.

There is a 40 percent chance of scattered showers after noon, according to the National Weather Service. Winds will gust up to 24 mph and the high temperature will be 74 degrees.

During the evening, the chance of thunderstorms increases to 80 percent. The most likely time for severe weather will come between 5-8 p.m. It could include strong winds, hail and the possibility of a tornado. Up to three-quarters of an inch of rain is expected.

Storms will move out of the area overnight and skies will be sunny Friday with a high of 78.

The weekend is expected to start off nice. But more rough weather could move in before it's over.

On Saturday the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 80. On Sunday a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms and a high of 77 are predicted.
